Satirical portrayals of automated futures, political comedy, and absurd everyday encounters form the foundation of contemporary German cabaret and humorous speculative fiction. Marc-Uwe Kling emerged as a prominent German entertainer, songwriter, and author through his live audio performances, bestselling stage routines, and satirical novels. He gained wide recognition for creating fictional worlds that blend system-critical commentary with sharp observational humor.
Born in Stuttgart in 1982, Kling received musical instruction in piano and guitar during his childhood. At the age of twenty, he moved to Berlin to study philosophy and theater studies at Freie Universität Berlin. In 2003, he began performing on comedy stages and participating in poetry slams throughout Germany. To establish a space dedicated to system-critical humor, he co-founded the reading stage Lesedüne in 2005 alongside Kolja Reichert, Maik Martschinkowsky, and Sebastian Lehmann.
His stage work expanded through solo comedy tours such as Wenn alle Stricke reißen, kann man sich nicht mal aufhängen, leading to widespread success with the creation of his kangaroo character in 2009. The resulting debut, Die Känguru-Chroniken, became a major bestseller as a book and as a live audio performance recorded before audiences. Beyond literature and comedy recordings, he has worked as a screenwriter, director, and producer, while also participating in digital activism advocating for internet platform reform.
Kling's work integrates political stand-up comedy, system-critical satire, and philosophical themes. His narratives frequently contrast absurd comic situations with sharp critiques of commercialization, digital media algorithms, and social polarization. Whether writing audio plays, children's books, or speculative fiction, he uses inventive humor to examine modern societal dynamics and internet culture.
