"There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.
As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder."-- Provided by Amazon

The chilling psychological thriller You introduced readers to an uncomfortably intimate look into the mind of an obsessive stalker. Written by Caroline Kepnes, the 2014 novel introduced readers to Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager whose dark obsession with an aspiring writer unfolds through an intimate second-person perspective.
Following its initial release, the book launched a multi-novel series and inspired a television adaptation broadcast on Lifetime and Netflix. Kepnes's work combines sharp pop-culture commentary with suspenseful psychological tension, establishing her distinct position in modern thriller writing.
Caroline Kepnes was born on November 10, 1976, and grew up in Centerville on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She attended Barnstable High School before earning her undergraduate degree from Brown University. Following her studies, she established a professional writing career in media and television, working as a pop culture journalist for Entertainment Weekly and writing scripts for television dramas including 7th Heaven and The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
Her background in entertainment journalism and television writing informed her sharp dialogue and contemporary cultural observations. Kepnes later relocated to Los Angeles, California, to continue her literary and screenwriting endeavors. In 2018, her standalone genre-blending novel Providence was published under Random House's Lenny imprint. She subsequently expanded her signature series with additional novels and signed with CAA while contributing to screen adaptations of her work.
Kepnes is recognized for her use of second-person narration, creating an intense and immediate proximity between the reader and antiheroic central characters. Her novels explore themes of stalker psychology, digital privacy, romantic delusion, and modern social media culture, presenting disturbing behaviors through conversational and culturally fluent inner monologues.
Beyond her traditional psychological thrillers, Kepnes integrates speculative and supernatural elements into works such as Providence. Her background as an entertainment journalist frequently surfaces through layered references to literature, music, and television, grounding her characters' fixations within contemporary pop culture.
