Contemporary romantic comedy and young adult fiction frequently explore the humorous and complex intersections of professional ambition, personal growth, and romantic intimacy. Rachel Lynn Solomon has established a widespread readership across adult romance and young adult literature by writing heart-warming stories centered on imperfect protagonists navigating real-world life transitions, such as in her bestselling novel The Ex Talk.
Originally from Seattle, Washington, Solomon earned a degree in journalism from the University of Washington. During high school, she sang and played keyboard in an all-girl band and participated in a gathering that set a Guinness World Record for the most natural redheads in one place. After graduating college, she worked for local Northwest media outlets and Seattle public radio station KUOW-FM. Her time in public radio provided the direct inspiration for her breakout adult novel, The Ex Talk, which focuses on two competing radio producers forced to fake a relationship on air.
Solomon later relocated to Amsterdam with her husband, where she continues her career as an author. Her books have appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, have been translated into 20 languages, and have been optioned for film adaptations.
Solomon's writing is distinguished by nuanced portrayals of relatable, flawed characters who face everyday anxieties, career pressures, and emotional vulnerabilities. Her journalism background informs her realistic workplace and academic settings, while her narratives frequently showcase deep affection for real-world geographic settings, capturing the distinct charm of cities like Seattle and Amsterdam.
Jewish identity represents a vital theme in Solomon's work. Motivated by a desire to address the underrepresentation of Jewish protagonists in contemporary young adult and adult romance fiction, as well as positive feedback from readers, she regularly centers Jewish characters in her novels, integrating cultural heritage into contemporary love stories.
