If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn't been one long enough. Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn't know what the hell she's doing half the time. How she's made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn't supposed to be so hard. With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for. Except for a boyfriend. Or a husband. But who needs either one of those?

Slow-burn contemporary romance fiction relies on patient emotional buildup, realistic character growth, and deeply layered relationship dynamics. Mariana Zapata has published over a dozen standalone romance novels translated into more than twenty languages, building a dedicated international readership through titles such as The Wall of Winnipeg and Me.
Her contemporary fiction frequently tops bestseller lists and has earned five Goodreads Choice Award nominations in the Romance category, offering readers detailed narratives centered on athletic backgrounds, small towns, and personal growth.
A native Texan, Mariana Zapata began writing romantic stories shortly after learning how to spell. As a child, she secretly read romance novels from her aunt's bookshelves before turning to original stories about princesses and princes. During her teenage years, she wrote boy band fanfiction, later returning to creative writing in her early twenties inspired by series like Sookie Stackhouse and Twilight. Encouraged by her husband, she pursued romance writing professionally, completing thirteen novels over more than a decade as an independent author before signing a trade publishing deal for The Wall of Winnipeg and Me.
Zapata currently lives in a small town in Colorado with her husband and their two Great Danes, Dorian and Kaiser. Outside of writing, she is an avid reader who enjoys spending time outdoors, attempting experimental cooking in the kitchen, and engaging with fans across social media platforms like TikTok, where content surrounding her novels has garnered hundreds of millions of views.
Characterized by deliberate, slow-paced narrative progression, Zapata's books prioritize emotional depth and realistic character conflicts over quick resolutions. Her work frequently utilizes popular romance tropes including forced proximity, grumpy-and-sunshine personality dynamics, and sports backgrounds. Themes of personal grief, healing, and emotional recovery are integral to her storytelling, as reflected in All Rhodes Lead Here, which follows a protagonist rebuilding her life in a small town following the end of a long-term relationship.
Her sports romances, such as Kulti and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, balance professional athletic dedication with gradual romantic connection. In novels like Wait for It, she explores everyday caretaking, family ties, and humor, employing authentic dialogue and patient pacing to ensure that character relationships feel earned.
