Career & Background

J. Bree established her international writing career while operating from a small rural farm along the coast of Western Australia. Balancing her daily schedule between writing, managing farm life, and raising her family alongside her partner, she developed a broad bibliography that spans several distinct fictional universes and subgenres. Her publishing history includes dark contemporary romance, urban fantasy reverse harem narratives, and epic fantasy sagas featuring Fae and witches.

Her expanded literary settings demonstrate her versatility across different subgenres and character arrangements. Within her catalog, the World of Mounts Bay setting houses several interconnected dark contemporary romance series, including the four-book reverse harem mafia narrative Hannaford Prep Series, the dark romance The Butcher of the Bay Duet, and the three-book Queen Crow Series. Beyond her contemporary crime narratives, she launched The Mortal Fates, an epic fantasy series centered on M/F enemies-to-lovers dynamics between Fae and witch factions.

Writing Style & Themes

Bree's narrative style is characterized by fast-paced, plot-driven storytelling that emphasizes suspense, unexpected plot turns, and heightened emotional tension. Across her dark contemporary and paranormal fiction, her narrative structures frequently employ popular tropes such as enemies-to-lovers romance, 'touch her and die' protection dynamics, and intricate multi-partner group relationships. Her characters are routinely forced into situations requiring high-stakes personal survival while navigating complicated loyalties and hidden pasts.

Worldbuilding serves as another core pillar of her writing, whether constructed through contemporary urban environments or traditional high-fantasy magic systems. In her urban fantasy work, she weaves urban magic, bonded connections, and dark secrets into modern settings, whereas her epic fantasy writing focuses on world-building involving distinct magical species like Fae and witches.
