Audrey Niffenegger's innovative debut, The Time Traveler's Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing. (source)

Speculative romance and high-concept fiction gained a distinct voice through the combination of narrative prose and fine art printmaking in contemporary literature. Audrey Niffenegger established her literary presence with the 2003 debut novel The Time Traveler's Wife, which blended romantic drama with non-linear temporal storytelling.
Born on June 13, 1963, in South Haven, Michigan, Niffenegger moved to Evanston, Illinois, during her childhood and has spent most of her life based in Chicago and London. She began making prints in 1978 under the tutelage of William Wimmer before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Master of Fine Arts from Northwestern University. Beginning in 1987, she exhibited her artist's books, prints, paintings, drawings, and comics across Chicago while working as an academic and visual artist. She later married comic artist Eddie Campbell, with whom she has collaborated on creative projects.
Niffenegger's work frequently bridges literature and visual media, incorporating printmaking techniques, illustration, graphic narrative forms, and macabre motifs. Her personal aesthetic includes a longstanding interest in taxidermy and collecting skeletons, elements that reflect her focus on mortality, memory, loss, and physical transformation. In addition to full-length prose novels, her creative output includes graphic novels, illustrated short stories, and fine art retrospectives that integrate visual art with eerie, precise prose.
