Career & Background

Born on July 18, 1974, in Shelburne, Vermont, DiMartino studied animation and visual arts at the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Beginning his career in animation during the 1990s, he teamed with Bryan Konietzko to co-create Avatar: The Last Airbender, which premiered in 2005. Following the original series, the pair created The Legend of Korra in 2012. DiMartino later transitioned into prose fiction with his debut novel series Rebel Genius, while continuing to author and oversee graphic novel extensions of the Avatar universe published by Dark Horse Comics and Abrams Books. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife.
