The high-fantasy romance novel When the Moon Hatched introduced readers to an expansive world of elemental magic, dragons, and intricate mythologies. Written by New Zealand-born author Sarah A. Parker, the epic fantasy gained international acclaim and sparked a competitive fifteen-publisher bidding war across the United States and the United Kingdom.
Through her vivid worldbuilding and character-driven storytelling, Parker has established a wide readership across global fantasy book communities.
Raised on a farm in rural Wairarapa, New Zealand, Parker spent her childhood exploring pastures, building hedge forts, and inventing imaginative stories long before writing them down. Although she struggled with reading during her early childhood, her grandmother introduced her to classic fantasy and folklore tales that unlocked a passion for literature. She began writing stories at a young age, though she kept her early narrative work private for many years before publishing her books for wider audiences.
Parker later relocated to Australia, where she has resided on the Gold Coast with her husband and three young children for over ten years. Outside of her writing career, she balances her literary work with family adventures, gardening, snowboarding, and engaging with readers through her official online platform, Realm of Relics, as well as various major social media networks.
Parker's writing centers predominantly on epic fantasy romance, blending detailed magical frameworks, dragon lore, and emotionally complex character relationships. Her narrative approach prioritizes immersive worldbuilding, mysterious overarching plots, and multi-layered protagonists whose internal struggles mirror the high-stakes conflicts of their environments.
By combining the whimsical folklore influences of her childhood with grounded character dynamics, Parker creates romantic fantasy narratives marked by tension and atmospheric depth. Her commitment to crafting tangible fantasy settings and intricate lore remains a central feature of her work.
