§Synopsis

01

A showrunner and her assistant give the world something to talk about when they accidentally fuel a ridiculous rumor in this debut romance.

Hollywood powerhouse Jo is photographed making her assistant Emma laugh on the red carpet, and just like that, the tabloids declare them a couple. The so-called scandal couldn't come at a worse time—threatening Emma's promotion and Jo's new movie.

As the gossip spreads, it starts to affect all areas of their lives. Paparazzi are following them outside the office, coworkers are treating them differently, and a “source” is feeding information to the media. But their only comment is “no comment”.

With the launch of Jo’s film project fast approaching, the two women begin to spend even more time together, getting along famously. Emma seems to have a sixth sense for knowing what Jo needs. And Jo, known for being aloof and outwardly cold, opens up to Emma in a way neither of them expects. They begin to realize the rumor might not be so off base after all…but is acting on the spark between them worth fanning the gossip flames?

§About the Author

Meryl Wilsner

4 books in catalog

Contemporary sapphic romance gained a prominent entry with Something to Talk About, a slow-burn Hollywood romance that became the first queer female romance printed by Berkley Books. Meryl Wilsner writes contemporary romances focused on queer characters who love women, delivering stories that range from ultra-slow-burn workplace dynamics to high-heat age-gap relationships.

Career & Background

Wilsner was born in Michigan in 1990 and studied political science at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Before returning to Michigan, Wilsner lived in Portland and in Jackson, Mississippi, and currently resides in Grand Rapids with their wife. Wilsner began writing creative fiction at an early age and honed their craft by writing fanfiction online. Participating in the Pitch Wars mentorship program helped launch their traditional publishing career, leading to the acquisition of their debut novel Something to Talk About, which was published in 2020 to critical recognition and starred reviews from Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, Booklist, and Library Journal.

Writing Style & Themes

Wilsner's novels explore the emotional complexities, missteps, and vulnerabilities of human relationships within LGBTQ romance. Their narrative pacing varies widely across titles: while Something to Talk About relies on a gradual buildup before romantic intimacy occurs, their sophomore novel Mistakes Were Made opens immediately with an intimate encounter, demonstrating flexibility across different romantic tropes. Their stories regularly emphasize authentic queer representation, humor, mutual respect, and the messy decisions real people make when navigating love. Their catalog also incorporates popular sports and contemporary tropes, such as the professional soccer setting in Cleat Cute and getaway dynamics in My Best Friend's Honeymoon.
