Orphaned as a baby, nineteen-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each one more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy. Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation, and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness. But when their mother’s restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realizes that the family she depends on could be in grave danger and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer.
However, Signa’s best chance of uncovering the murderer is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he’s made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful—and more irresistible—than she ever dared imagine.

Young adult fantasy fiction gained a prominent gothic mystery series with the publication of Belladonna, a story weaving romance, supernatural intrigue, and murder mystery. Adalyn Grace established her reputation in speculative fiction through bestselling young adult series that combine intricate worldbuilding with dark romantic tropes, starting with her debut fantasy duology and expanding into gothic romance. Her work has reached #1 status on The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and international bestseller lists.
Before pursuing a full-time career as a fiction writer, Grace built a diverse background in storytelling and media. She graduated summa cum laude at the age of nineteen and worked for four years in live theatre, while also serving as the managing editor of a nonprofit newspaper. Her formal study of narrative structure included interning for Nickelodeon Animation on the popular animated series The Legend of Korra. Grace launched her career in publishing with her debut young adult fantasy novel All the Stars and Teeth, published in February 2020, which formed the first installment of the All the Stars and Teeth duology. Based in San Diego, she spends her non-writing time watching anime and playing video games with her two dogs.
Grace's writing in young adult fantasy features atmospheric settings, high-stakes mystery, and character-driven romantic subplots. Drawing on her background in theater and animation narrative, her books emphasize tight pacing, visual scene construction, and expressive dialogue. Her stories frequently revolve around young women navigating complex magic systems, political power struggles, and deadly bargains with supernatural forces. In her gothic fantasy work, she balances eerie tone and mortal peril with emotionally charged relationships and investigative plots.
