Career & Background

Yoder grew up in an intentional Mennonite community located in the Appalachian foothills of eastern Ohio. She completed her undergraduate studies at Georgetown University before pursuing graduate work in creative writing. She earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program as well as an MFA in fiction from the University of Arizona.

Alongside writer Mark Polanzak, Yoder co-founded draft: the journal of process, a literary publication highlighting early and final drafts of stories, essays, and poems alongside interviews on artistic development. She also hosted The Fail Safe, a podcast exploring how authors navigate creative setbacks. After serving as the 2023–2024 Trias Writer-in-Residence at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, she joined the faculty at the University of Iowa as an Assistant Professor of Screenwriting. She resides in Iowa City with her husband and son.
