Katee Robert

Reimagining classical mythology and fairy tales with high-heat romance and dark fantasy elements has become a defining trend in modern genre fiction, led in large part by the wildly popular Dark Olympus series. Katee Robert (she/they) is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author whose spicy romance and fantasy titles have sold over two million copies worldwide. Entertainment Weekly calls their writing “unspeakably hot,” reflecting a distinct blend of explicit romance, mythology, and intense emotional stakes that has gained massive traction across online reader communities.

Their extensive body of work spans contemporary romance, romantic suspense, dark fantasy, and paranormal romance. Robert lives in the Pacific Northwest with their husband, children, a cat who thinks he’s a dog, and two Great Danes who think they’re lap dogs.

Career & Background

Robert was inspired to begin writing in earnest during the height of popularity for Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. Since publishing their first book in 2016, Robert has rapidly expanded their bibliography, building a dedicated audience through consistent releases across contemporary and fantasy subgenres. Their profile grew dramatically on social media, particularly on TikTok, where reader enthusiasm and viral word-of-mouth brought widespread attention to titles like Neon Gods A Scorchingly Hot Modern Retelling of Hades and Persephone.

Over the course of their career, Robert has published both independently and through traditional houses, engaging regularly with romance readers at book events and digital platforms. In addition to work published under their primary name, Robert also writes under the pseudonym Kat Taylor. Their catalog continues to expand across mythological retellings, dark mafia romance, and fantasy sagas such as Blood on the Tide.

Writing Style & Themes

Robert is known for a high-heat writing style that combines classical story structures with explicit sensuality and modern character dynamics. Mildly obsessed with fairy tales and retellings, Robert frequently reinterprets Greek mythology, classic legends, and fairy tale archetypes, transporting iconic figures into contemporary or dark fantasy settings filled with political intrigue.

Recurring themes in Robert's work include power negotiations, consent, polyamory, and queer romance representation. Their stories balance trope-driven romance conventions with character autonomy and guaranteed happy endings. Conversely, narratives written under the Kat Taylor pen name explore darker fiction without guaranteed happily-ever-afters.
