Career & Background
Born on February 7, 1974, in Elmira, New York, Emma McLaughlin attended New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. While balancing her studies and working as a nanny in Manhattan, she met fellow student and childcare worker Nicola Kraus. Drawing directly on their shared experiences in upper-echelon households, the pair wrote their breakout debut novel, The Nanny Diaries, published in 2002. The book became a major commercial success and was later adapted into a 2007 feature film.
Following the breakout success of their debut, McLaughlin and Kraus expanded their bibliography with several additional adult and young adult novels. Their subsequent adult fiction titles include Citizen Girl, Dedication, and Nanny Returns, a sequel continuing the storyline of their original hit. In the young adult market, they authored The Real Real and Over You. Beyond fiction writing, McLaughlin and Kraus co-founded the book coaching firm TheFinishedThought.com and continue their creative work together in New York City.
