Born and raised in the southern United States, Auerbach began publishing horror online in 2011 under the Reddit username 1000Vultures on the r/NoSleep community forum. His initial story, titled "Footsteps," resonated with online readers and quickly evolved into an interconnected multi-part series exploring memory, obsession, and childhood vulnerability. To turn these viral posts into a complete novel, Auerbach launched a self-publishing Kickstarter campaign that raised more than 1,000 percent of its initial funding goal. In 2012, he released the revised and expanded manuscript as Penpal, which earned wide recognition within contemporary horror fiction. Following the success of his debut, Auerbach released his second novel, Bad Man, in 2018, which was later published in Spanish as Hombre Malo in 2019.
