Born in Albany, Georgia, in 1965, Brom grew up in a military family and spent his childhood moving across various locations, including Japan, Hawaii, Germany, and Alabama, eventually graduating from high school in Frankfurt, Germany. From an early age, he was drawn to the weird, monstrous, and macabre. After working full-time as a commercial illustrator in Atlanta at age twenty, he entered the field of fantastic art three years later when he joined TSR in 1989. At TSR, he created foundational character and setting illustrations for Dungeons & Dragons, making a major mark on the iconic Dark Sun role-playing setting.

Over the following decades, Brom expanded his artistic reach across video games, film, comics, and book publishing. He transitioned into authoring his own dark fantasy and horror fiction, illustrating his books with dozens of original paintings.
