Raised in Southern California, Bennett earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University before pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in fiction at the University of Michigan. During her graduate studies, she earned the 2014 Hurston/Wright Award for College Writers and won a Hopwood Award in Graduate Short Fiction.
