After publishing fourteen short stories by 1942, Bester transitioned into writing scripts for DC Comics alongside editors Weisinger and Jack Schiff, eventually expanding his work into radio drama, television programs, and magazine editing. He returned to science fiction novels in the 1950s, publishing The Demolished Man—which won the inaugural Hugo Award in 1953—and The Stars My Destination. Later in his career, he published The Computer Connection in the 1970s and received the SFWA Grand Master Award before his death in 1987.
